Project Overview

Give a brief overview of the project you are planning.

Our team is assisting with three different local organizations: Wyoming Senior Center, God’s Kitchen, and Wedgwood Christian Services providing services such as a preparing and serving meals, landscaping, and light maintenance.

 

Effective Practice: MEANINGFUL SERVICE

Service learning actively engages participants in meaningful and personally relevant service activities.

What community need will you address and how did you determine the need?

–Social interaction and campus beautification.

–The need was determined based on diversity in the groups (seniors, homeless, children) and previous relationships with the organizations

What service will you provide to address the need?

–preparing and serving meals,

–landscaping

–light maintenance.

This project relates to a number of ELA standards.

–Continues to foster the community relationship between Godfrey-Lee and Wyoming Senior Center

–Fosters respect and appreciation for different economic classes of Grand Rapids and the challenges that might come from economic hardships

–Fosters relationship between Kent County schools and education systems

–Assists in sustaining property and community locations
