Project Overview

Give a brief overview of the project you are planning.

We want our students to learn about and appreciate the elderly members of our community. We will visit and interact with the residents of Fountainview of Lowell (assisted living facility). Each first grade class will visit twice throughout the school year interacting in a variety of ways (singing, reading, playing games…). We will conclude our service learning project with a final visit with all three classes to plant flowers for the residents to enjoy through the summer months.

What community need will you address and how did you determine the need?

We have found through past experiences a need for cross generational experiences for our elderly residents at Fountainview and our first grade students.

What service will you provide to address the need?

We will provide a variety of experiences.
• Companionship
• Communication through cards, pictures and letters
• Singing, reading, and playing games
• Trick or Treating
• Christmas Party
• Thanksgiving cookie decorating
• Planting Flowers

• Making and selling Christmas cards to buy Christmas gifts for the residents.

They will learn to understand and appreciate the elderly.

The partners benefit from the companionship and entertainment provided by the children while doing activities together. They also benefit by being able to teach the children skills they have.
